Gustavo Abascal
Born in Mexico City in 1979, this visual artist and draughtsman works in large-scale drawing that addresses decomposition, the transitory, horror, and the occult as lenses for the social and existential consequences of living in a violent society of exploitation and consumption. Underground music, drone, and metal are central influences on his imagery, as is literature, horror fiction, and poetry. His series Strategies Against Architectures takes its title from an Einstürzende Neubauten album. He has held solo exhibitions at talcual gallery in Mexico City, Impronta Casa Editora in Guadalajara, and Kunstnerhuset Classensgade in Denmark.
