Guillermo Galindo
Guillermo Galindo is a Mexican-born composer, performer, and sound artist, born in Mexico City in 1960 and trained at the Escuela Nacional de Música, Berklee College of Music, and Mills College, where he studied composition and electronic music. He builds his own instruments from found and discarded objects, letting their materials and histories shape the sound rather than musical convention. His 2011 collaboration with photographer Richard Misrach, Border Cantos, paired images of the U.S.-Mexico border with sonic devices made from border-patrol and migrant detritus. At documenta 14 in 2017, his Echo Exodus series extended this to objects left behind by refugees.
