Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a Montreal-based collective of nine musicians, formed in 1994. Working without vocals, they build extended orchestral rock compositions from strings, guitars, brass, and drums, structured around long arcs of tension and release that draw equally on post-rock, drone, and experimental film score traditions. F♯ A♯ ∞ (1997) and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (2000) are landmark records of the post-rock genre. Consistently aligned with anarchist and anti-capitalist politics, they went on extended hiatus from 2003 to 2010 and have since maintained an active recording and touring practice, releasing several albums on Constellation Records.
