goat is a Japanese free improvisation quartet comprising Ryoko Iki (alto saxophone), Futoshi Okano (drums), Yasuhiro Usui (electric bass), and Masahiko Oki (electric guitar). Working from a base of free jazz and noise rock, they develop extended improvisations that move through dense textural fields and sudden structural shifts. Their self-titled debut and subsequent releases document a group working with speed, silence, and group dynamics in an approach that sits within the Japanese free improvisation lineage while engaging fully with electric and amplified sound. They perform regularly in Japan and at international festivals.
