G.I.S.M
Founded in Tokyo in 1981 by vocalist Shigehisa "Sakevi" Yokoyama and guitarist Randy Uchida, G.I.S.M. became one of Japan's most extreme and internationally cult-followed bands, fusing hardcore punk with heavy metal, early industrial, and avant-garde noise in a way unprecedented in the punk world. Their 1984 debut Detestation on Dogma Records is a benchmark of Japanese hardcore. The acronym was used in multiple versions including Guerrilla Incendiary Sabotage Mutineer. Yokoyama also published the punk zine P.O.W. in the mid-1980s. He died on 24 August 2023; the band's final album SoniCRIME TheRapy appeared in 2001.
