Ghédalia Tazartès

Ghédalia Tazartès (1947–2023) was born into a Judaeo-Spanish family in Paris and developed an extraordinary musical practice that resists all classification. Musician David Fenech described his music as unclassifiable — an assessment confirmed by any encounter with his recordings, which combine pre-linguistic vocal utterances, manipulated field recordings, and tape collage into works of haunting and unsettling beauty.

Tazartès rarely performed in concerts and released a relatively small number of albums during his lifetime, yet he maintained a career making music for dance, theater, and cinema.
