Germano Celant

Germano Celant (1940–2020) was an Italian art historian, critic, and curator who coined the term Arte Povera in 1967, publishing the manifesto Appunti Per Una Guerriglia (Notes on a Guerrilla War) in Flash Art, which became the defining document of that artistic and political movement. His subsequent writing and curatorial work shaped international understanding of Arte Povera and established his reputation as one of the most important curators of his generation.

Celant served as senior curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York for many years, organizing major exhibitions on artists including Anselm Kiefer, Frank Stella, and many others.
