Genesis P. Orridge

Born Neil Megson in Manchester on 22 February 1950, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge co-founded the COUM Transmissions collective and then Throbbing Gristle in 1975, pioneering industrial music until the band dissolved in 1981. Psychic TV followed, eventually absorbing acid house and evolving through dozens of configurations. With partner Lady Jaye Breyer, they pursued the Pandrogeny Project from 1995: using surgery to physically merge identities into a single pandrogyne. Lady Jaye died in 2007 but P-Orridge continued the project until their own death from leukaemia on 14 March 2020 in New York.
