Geir Jenssen

Geir Jenssen (born 1962, Tromsø) is a Norwegian electronic musician recording as Biosphere — one of the defining voices in ambient music. After an early period in the synth trio Bel Canto, he turned to solo work inspired by Arctic landscapes, mountaineering, and science fiction. His 1997 album Substrata remains a landmark of the genre. He has recorded field recordings from Tibet for his Cho Oyu release, climbed the 8,201-metre peak without oxygen in 2001, and collaborated with Pete Namlook and Higher Intelligence Agency. He releases primarily on his own Biophon Records and on Touch.
