Function

Function is the project of David Sumner, an American techno producer and DJ based in New York. Active since the mid-1990s, his practice draws on Detroit techno, industrial music, and dark electronic sound, producing releases of austere, machine-driven minimalism. He has released on Sandwell District — the influential Birmingham-based label and collective he co-founded with Regis (Karl O'Connor) and Female — as well as on his own imprint Infrastructure New York. His DJ sets and productions are central to the development of a hard, functional techno aesthetic that bridges dance floor utility and conceptual rigour.
