Franz Hautzinger

Franz Hautzinger (born 1963) is an Austrian trumpeter based in Vienna, one of the most innovative brass improvisers in European experimental music. His technique involves multiphonics, breath noise, microtonality, and the use of quarter-tone valves, producing sounds far beyond conventional trumpet technique. He has released on Grob, Erstwhile, and other labels documenting his solo work and collaborations with artists including Sachiko M, Burkhard Stangl, and Martin Siewert. A central figure in the Vienna improvisation scene, his practice places him within the tradition of extended instrumental research alongside Axel Dörner and Greg Kelley.
