Francisco López
Francisco López (b. 1964, Spain) trained as an entomologist before developing into one of the most prolific and uncompromising figures in sound art and musique concrète. His practice centres on immersive concerts in which audiences are blindfolded — a format he initiated in 1998 — and full-range loudspeakers are arranged around a concealed performer to dissolve the boundary between listener and environment. He has recorded across more than seventy countries, from Patagonian plateaus to tropical rainforests and industrial interiors, and has released hundreds of recordings. He holds four honorary mentions at the Ars Electronica and the Qwartz Award 2010 for best sound anthology.
