Francis Dhomont
Francis Dhomont (1926–2023) was a French-Canadian composer of acousmatic and electroacoustic music. After early work in France as a student of Nadia Boulanger, he moved to Québec in 1978, where he became a central figure of the Montreal electroacoustic scene. His large-scale acousmatic works — including Sous le regard d'un soleil noir (1981) and Forêt profonde (1994–96) — are characterised by elaborate spatial architectures and a concern with inner, psychological landscapes. A recipient of the Qwartz and Prix Ars Electronica, he contributed as both composer and theorist to the development of acousmatic music through his years teaching at the Université de Montréal.
