Fértil Miseria
Fértil Miseria is a hardcore punk band formed in Medellín, Colombia in 1990 by sisters Vicky Castro (vocals) and Piedad Castro (bass), with Vicky often called the mother of Colombian punk as one of the first women fronting a punk band in the country. Their sound stays raw and unpolished, built around lyrics of open social denunciation: songs like Desplazados confront forced displacement and the violence of Colombia's armed conflict head-on, crude and blunt because, as the band puts it, reality is. Still active after more than three decades, they toured 35 cities across nine European countries in 2014, remaining a foundational reference for women in Latin American punk.
