Ferdinand Kriwet

Born in Düsseldorf in 1942, Ferdinand Kriwet is a German intermedia artist who developed a body of work crossing radio plays, visual text installations, film, and concrete poetry. His Hörtexte (Radiotexts) series, produced for German public radio broadcasters across the 1960s and 1970s, assembled edited sound bites from mass media broadcasts into complex sonic collages. His 1969 work Apollo Amerika documented the Apollo 11 mission through recordings and film shot in New York, while Campaign (1973) applied the same method to electoral politics. Text, sound, and the mechanics of mass communication are interwoven throughout his practice.
