Fenriz

Fenriz (Gylve Fenris Nagell, born 1971) is a Norwegian musician and one half of the black metal duo Darkthrone, formed in Kolbotn in 1986. Originally a death metal band, Darkthrone pivoted in the early 1990s to a stripped-back black metal sound influenced by Bathory and Celtic Frost, becoming one of the definitive acts of the Norwegian black metal scene. Since guitarist Zephyrous left in 1993, the band has operated as a duo with Nocturno Culto. Fenriz is also known for his solo projects Isengard and Neptune Towers, his encyclopedic knowledge of underground metal, and his staunch promotion of the DIY ethic — as well as for being involuntarily elected to his local town council.
