Felipe Waller

Mexican-Dutch composer Juan Felipe Waller (b. 1971) grew up in Mexico City before studying composition at the Rotterdam Conservatorium with Klaas de Vries and electroacoustic music with René Uylenhoet, graduating with distinction in 1999. He went on to study electronics and computer-aided composition at IRCAM in Paris. His works explore a deformational discourse between harmony and texture, often using non-standard materials such as ceramic tiles, plastics, and recyclable objects to generate electronic-like timbres by acoustic means. He has been commissioned by Ensemble SuperMusique in Montreal and by Cantaloupe Music, and has performed in Mexico, Europe, and North America.
