Fan-Qi Wu

Fan-Qi Wu is a Taiwanese pipa player from Taoyuan City who reworks the traditional lute through free improvisation and graphic scores, drawing on minimalist music, Scandinavian jazz and folk for an eclectic, spacious sound. After winning first prize at Taiwan's National Pipa Competition in 2019, she pursued an MA in Fine Arts at the University of Gothenburg, focusing on improvisation and world music. Her project TREMÖLO explores the pipa within varied ensemble settings, and she was selected as a OneBeat Fellow through the U.S. State Department's music exchange program. She has performed across Asia, the Americas and Europe, connecting young Taiwanese musicians with international improvisers.
