EVOL
Formed by Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and Scottish artist Stephen Sharp, EVOL approaches computer music as a site of deformation and conceptual excess. Their project — which Jiménez de Cisneros founded in 1996 and has co-directed since alongside the ALKU label, run with Anna Ramos since 1997 — applies algorithmic processes to the aesthetics of rave and post-acid house culture, producing work that distorts familiar club forms beyond recognition. Recordings have appeared on Diagonal, Editions Mego, Presto!?, and Entr'acte. A sustained strand of their work has involved reinterpretations of German artist Hanne Darboven's Opus 17a, begun in 2014.
