Eva Ström

Born in 1947 in Lidingö, she is one of Sweden's most celebrated poets, having made her literary debut in 1977 with the collection Den brinnande zeppelinaren. She trained and practised as a physician from 1974 to 1988 before turning to writing full-time, an experience that has left a strong imprint on her work's handling of body, language, and physical sensation. Her 2002 collection Revbensstäderna — The Rib Cities — was awarded the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 2003. In 2010 she was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Her poetry tests the limits of language through density, physicality, and an attention to lived experience.
