Erwin Wurm

Erwin Wurm (b. 1954) is an Austrian artist best known for his One-Minute Sculptures — works in which participants assume absurd temporary positions with everyday objects, becoming sculptures for one minute. Initiated in the early 1990s, this project has been developed in public and institutional contexts worldwide, challenging assumptions about the body, duration, authorship, and the definition of sculpture. The works function as instruction-based pieces that democratise the production of art while producing images of profound strangeness and comedy. His Fat series — bloated versions of cars, houses, and household objects — extends his critique of consumer excess into three dimensions.
