Enrico Malatesta
Raised near Cesena in north-east Italy, Enrico Malatesta began playing drums in his mid-teens before enrolling in the classical percussion course at the conservatory there. He moved into free improvisation and experimental music, developing a practice that concentrates on surface textures, minimal gesture, and the morphology of materials rather than conventional drumming. He has performed at Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan, Berghain in Berlin, the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, and Blank Forms in New York. Significant partnerships include a duo with Swiss percussionist Christian Wolfarth and an electro-acoustic trio with Lorenzo Senni and Riccardo Baruzzi.
