Ellen Arkbro

Ellen Arkbro (b. 1990, Stockholm) is a Swedish composer and sound artist working with precisely tuned harmony in just intonation and meantone temperament. After early training in jazz voice and electronic composition at Elektronmusikstudion and the Royal College of Music, she studied tuning theory with Marc Sabat in Berlin and just intonation with La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela in New York. Her compositions, often written for pipe organ and brass, unfold as long, resonant chords whose inner beatings slowly reveal themselves. Albums include For Organ and Brass and CHORDS (Subtext Recordings), Sounds while waiting, and collaborations with Johan Graden and Kali Malone.
