Eisuke Yanagisawa

Kyoto-based ethnographer, field recordist, and filmmaker Eisuke Yanagisawa focuses on the acoustic and cultural dimensions of specific places. Since 2006 his primary research has centred on the gong culture of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, resulting in ethnographic films and a Sublime Frequencies LP of recordings of the Bahnar people spanning 2006 to 2015. His sound art practice involves capturing inaudible and ultrasonic material through specialised microphones, and extends to underwater soundscapes and experimental video that traces the interaction between humans and objects through close attention to sound.
