Dog Faced Hermans

Dog Faced Hermans formed in Edinburgh in 1986, emerging from the punk-funk group Volunteer Slavery. The steady lineup of Marion Coutts (vocals, trumpet, percussion), Andy Moor (guitar), Colin McLean (bass) and Wilf Plum (drums) fused anarcho-punk with free jazz, dub, folk and noise, using instrumentation rare in punk at the time. Relocating to Amsterdam around 1990, they drew close to the DIY networks around The Ex, whose engineer Gert-Jan Blom joined the group as Moor also began playing guitar for The Ex. Albums including Humans Fly (1988), Mental Blocks for All Ages (1991) and Those Deep Buds (1994) appeared on Konkurrel and later Alternative Tentacles, before disbanding in 1995.
