Djibril Diabate

Djibril Diabaté is a musician and artist working across West African musical traditions and contemporary experimental music. His practice connects griot traditions and the acoustic and performance heritage of Guinea and Mali with contemporary electroacoustic and interdisciplinary contexts. Working with kora, traditional instruments, and electronics, he develops work that investigates how West African musical forms can be extended and transformed without losing their essential relationship to specific cultural and social practices. He has performed internationally in contexts ranging from ethnomusicological presentations to experimental music festivals.
