Disinformation

Disinformation is the project of British artist and musician Joe Banks, based in London. Working since the early 1990s with electromagnetic fields, radio noise, mains hum, and non-intentional electrical signals as his raw material, he creates recordings and installations that document the inadvertent music of industrial infrastructure. Releases on Ash International — including Solid State (1995) and Supermodified (2001) — present this material with minimal intervention, allowing the electromagnetic environment to speak with its own logic. His written work on the politics and aesthetics of interference has been published in Wire magazine and academic contexts.
