Devon Turnbull

Devon Turnbull is an American artist and sound practitioner based in New York, founder of OJAS Audio — a project that treats the design and construction of high-fidelity loudspeaker systems as a form of sculpture and cultural practice. His hand-built horn loudspeakers, constructed from wood with close attention to craft and formal beauty, are presented as sculptures in gallery contexts while functioning as extraordinarily capable listening instruments. His practice raises questions about the relationship between function and aesthetics, the culture of audiophile listening, and the ways in which utilitarian objects can be reframed as carriers of memory, craft, and shared experience.
