Década 2

Mexican electronic music project founded in 1985 by Mateo Lafontaine and Carlos García, Década 2 developed a dark, ironic, and iconoclastic sound drawing on Joy Division, early industrial, and electronic body music, set against sociopolitical and dystopian themes. Their physically imposing beats, distorted synth melodies, and subwoofer-heavy bass made them cult figures among goths, punks, and underground audiences across Mexico and beyond. Fuelled by Lafontaine's collection of vintage electronic instruments, the project remained loyal to the underground for decades. It ceased operations following the death of Mateo Lafontaine in 2020.
