David Tibet

Born David Michael Bunting on 5 March 1960 in Batu Gajah, Malaysia, to British parents, he is best known as the founder and sole constant member of Current 93, formed in London in 1983 after he left Psychic TV. Beginning with harsh industrial noise, Current 93 shifted in the mid-1980s toward a devotional neofolk sound shaped by Tibet's mysticism—drawing on Vajrayana Buddhism, Christian eschatology, and Thelema. His apocalyptic imagery of childhood, loss, and end-times has made Current 93 one of the most singular projects in British experimental music. In 2009 he completed an MA in Coptic Language and Grammar through Macquarie University.
