David Grubbs

David Grubbs is an American musician and writer based in Brooklyn, best known as a founding member of Gastr del Sol and earlier member of Squirrel Bait and Bastro. His solo recordings — on Drag City and Blue Chopsticks — develop an idiosyncratic approach to song and composition that incorporates noise, improvisation, and literary influence. He is also a prolific writer whose books Records Ruin the Landscape (2014) and Now that the Audience is Assembled (2018) engage critically with experimental music's relationship to recording, documentation, and listening.
