Daniele Lombardi

Florentine composer, pianist, and visual artist (1946–2018) who devoted his career to the recovery and performance of early twentieth-century avant-garde music. As a pianist he gave the first modern performances of numerous Italian and Russian Futurist compositions, as well as works by George Antheil, Leo Ornstein, and Alexandr Mossolov. His research culminated in the Nuova enciclopedia del futurismo musicale (2009), published by Fondazione Mudima. Combining music with visual art and synaesthetic experiment, his practice drew on a lineage stretching from Kandinsky and Scriabin through Futurism and the Bauhaus, making him a singular figure in Italian new music.
