Current 93
Current 93 is an English experimental group founded in 1982 by David Tibet, born David Michael Bunting in 1960 in Batu Gajah, Malaysia. Initially aligned with the industrial music scene, working with Psychic TV and 23 Skiddoo, Tibet steered the project toward what he termed apocalyptic folk by the mid-1980s, combining acoustic instrumentation, tape manipulation and densely allusive lyrics drawn from Christian mysticism, esoteric thought and eschatological imagery. Tibet has been the sole constant member across a shifting cast of collaborators including Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound, and the group remains a central reference in neofolk and occult-influenced experimental music.
