Cucina Povera

Cucina Povera is the project of Luxembourgish-Finnish musician and vocalist Maria Rossi, based in Glasgow. The name, Italian for the kitchen of the poor, reflects her approach of working with what is immediately available, most centrally the voice. Rossi uses layered vocals, synthesizers, effects, and field recordings to build dreamy, hymnal soundscapes rooted in everyday sonic encounters. Her debut album Hilja appeared on Night School Records in 2018, followed by Zoom, the a cappella document Tyyni, and the fourth album Lumme, recorded across Rotterdam, London, Luxembourg, and Glasgow.
