Costes

Costes is the alias of Jean-Louis Costes, a French musician, performer, and provocateur active since the 1980s. His work combines lo-fi electronic pop, grotesque theatre, transgressive performance, and noise in a practice that consistently pursues extremity and cultural offense. He has released prolifically across cassettes and CD-Rs, performed internationally — often in elaborate and deeply confrontational costume — and maintained a singular position in the international underground as a figure of sustained provocation. His releases have appeared on various DIY and underground labels. His work is simultaneously absurd and formally consistent.
