Conrad Schnitzler

Born in Düsseldorf in 1937 and died in Berlin in 2011, this German electronic musician studied sculpture with Joseph Beuys and composition with Karlheinz Stockhausen. He co-founded the Zodiak Free Arts Lab in West Berlin in 1968 and was an early member of Tangerine Dream before co-founding Kluster with Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius in 1969. After leaving Kluster he pursued a relentless solo practice of tape manipulation and raw electronics, beginning with the album Rot in 1973, producing hundreds of cassettes, vinyl releases, and CD-Rs until his death.
