Clayton Thomas

Australian double bass player based in Berlin whose practice spans free improvisation, experimental composition, and grassroots organisation. He founded the Splinter Orchestra and the NOW now Festival in Sydney, events that helped shape Australia's improvised music community. In Berlin he has become a fixture of the Echtzeitmusik scene, performing at Ausland and collaborating with improvising musicians across Europe and beyond. His approach draws on William Parker and Barre Phillips, moving freely between high-energy and radically reduced dynamics. His album Bass Strait was recorded at Ausland, Berlin.
