Chuck Roberts
Chuck Roberts was an American vocalist associated with Chicago house music, best known for the spoken word narration on Rhythm Controll's My House (1987) — a recording featuring the declaration 'In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove' that became one of the most quoted and sampled statements in house music history. As a vocalist and spoken word performer, Roberts represented a lineage connecting house music to African American church tradition and gospel through testimony and exhortation. His contribution to the mythology of house — framing the dancefloor as a space of collective deliverance — remains foundational.
