Christophe Charles

Born in Marseille in 1964, this French sound artist has been based in Tokyo since the late 1980s, where he is a professor at Musashino Art University. Trained in Japanese media arts at Tsukuba University and at Paris INALCO, his work uses found sounds and computer processes to create compositions without hierarchical structure. He has released music on Mille Plateaux and Ritornell and created permanent sound installations at Osaka Housing Center since 1999 and at Narita International Airport since 2000. His collaborators have included Henning Christiansen and Markus Popp.
