Christian Marclay
Born in San Rafael, California in 1955 and raised in Geneva, this Swiss-American artist and composer studied at the School of Visual Art in Geneva and the Massachusetts College of Art. He pioneered the use of vinyl records and turntables as instruments, splicing and reassembling discs in his Recycled Records series of the 1980s. His video work culminated in The Clock (2010), a 24-hour montage of film clips referencing each minute of the day, which won the Golden Lion at the 2011 Venice Biennale. He is represented by White Cube and Paula Cooper Gallery.
