Chris Cutler

Chris Cutler (b. 1947) is a British drummer, composer, theorist, and label founder whose work with Henry Cow — the experimental rock group he co-founded with Fred Frith in 1968 — and subsequent projects have made him one of the most significant and seriously engaged figures in experimental and improvised music. Henry Cow combined influences from Bartók, Stockhausen, and free jazz with rock instrumentation to produce music of unusual formal ambition.

After Henry Cow disbanded in 1978, Cutler continued in Art Bears with Frith and Dagmar Krause, and in Recommended Records (ReR), the label and distribution network he founded in 1978 to support experimental music outside the mainstream industry.
