Charles Manson
American criminal and cult leader (1934–2017) who recorded folk and psychedelic music in Los Angeles in the late 1960s and whose songs circulated in underground contexts as documents of countercultural pathology. His friendship with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys led to a reworked version of his song Cease to Exist appearing on their 1969 album 20/20. The album Lie: The Love and Terror Cult was pressed in 1970. Prison recordings made in the 1980s later surfaced as tapes, continuing to circulate in noise and underground music circles.
