Cex

Cex (Ryan J. Kidwell, born 1981) is an American electronic musician and rapper from Baltimore. Beginning with bedroom electronic music and IDM, he developed toward a hybrid of lo-fi electronics and hip-hop that was among the more idiosyncratic releases on Tigerbeat6 and other experimental labels in the early 2000s. Albums including Tall, Dark, and Handcuffed (2001) and Maryland Mansions (2004) demonstrate an ability to combine formal electronic experimentation with personal, often confessional lyrical content. He has worked under various aliases and in different genres across his career, maintaining an independent and restless creative practice.
