Céleste Boursier-Mougenot
Born in Nice in 1961 and based in Sète, this French artist and composer spent a decade composing for Pascal Rambert's theater company before developing his practice of generating sound from living systems and everyday objects. The installation From Here to Ear (1999) used zebra finches moving freely among electric guitars and amplifiers to produce unscripted compositions. His clinamen series, begun in 1997, floats white porcelain bowls across pools of water to create resonant, chiming environments. His work has been exhibited at the Bourse de Commerce and the Venice Biennale.
