Caterina Barbieri

Born in Bologna in 1990, this Italian composer studied electroacoustic composition and classical guitar at the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini before pursuing research in ethnomusicology and Hindustani classical music. Her work explores consciousness and psychoacoustic perception through modular synthesis and pattern-based repetition. The 2019 album Ecstatic Computation on Editions Mego brought wide attention, and in 2021 she founded her own label light-years. In November 2024 she was appointed Artistic Director of the Music Department at the Venice Biennale for 2025 and 2026.
