Carmina Escobar
Born in Mexico City in 1981, this experimental vocalist and performance artist trained at the Escuela Superior de Música and relocated to Los Angeles in 2008, completing an MFA in VoiceArts from CalArts in 2010, where she now teaches. Her work pushes vocal sound into territories of insects, machinery, and ritual through improvisation and extended technique, informed by studies with Meredith Monk and Jaap Blonk. She co-founded the ensemble LIMINAR and has received grants from the US Artists International Award, NALAC, and New Music USA.
