Carmen Villain

Carmen Villain (b. 1983) is a Norwegian artist and musician born in Oslo to a Mexican father and Norwegian mother, whose work crosses photography, film, and electronic music. Her musical practice — developed across albums including Infinite Avenue (2017) and Both (2020) on the Smalltown Supersound label — draws on jazz harmony, ambient music, and free improvisation to produce compositions of unusual atmospheric depth, often incorporating voice, saxophone, and synthesiser in ways that are simultaneously spare and evocative. Her background in photography and visual art informs the spatial and imagistic quality of her sonic work, which tends to construct environments rather than narratives.
