Carlos Amorales

Carlos Amorales (b. 1970) is a Mexican artist based in Mexico City whose practice spans performance, drawing, animation, music, and installation, often using a large archive of black silhouetted graphic forms developed as a personal visual vocabulary. He is perhaps best known for the masked wrestling persona Amorales — a figure whose appearances in performance, video, and publications interrogate identity, violence, and popular spectacle in Mexican culture — and for his music group Nuevos Ricos. His video and animation works translate this vocabulary into moving compositions drawn from his Liquid Archive, a digital database of vector graphics built since the late 1990s.
