CAN
CAN was a German experimental rock band formed in Cologne in 1968 by keyboardist Irmin Schmidt, bassist Holger Czukay, guitarist Michael Karoli, and drummer Jaki Liebefeld, with vocalist Malcolm Mooney and later Damo Suzuki. Working from a studio they called Inner Space, they developed a rhythmically propulsive, trance-oriented sound documented on albums including Monster Movie (1969), Tago Mago (1971), Ege Bamyasi (1972), and Future Days (1973). Their approach — extended improvisation edited into dense, hypnotic structures — was foundational for post-punk, electronic music, and the broader krautrock movement.
