Burkhard Stangl

Born on 6 November 1960 in Eggenburg, Lower Austria, he studied classical guitar, cultural anthropology, and musicology in Vienna, where he now lives and works. He co-founded the jazz ensemble Ton Art in 1985 and the chamber ensemble Maxixe in 1991, and is a member of the improvisation ensemble Polwechsel. A prolific performer in electro-acoustic improvisation with over fifty recordings to his name, he teaches at Vienna's University of Music and Performing Arts. His 1997 opera Der Venusmond was partly recorded on the observation deck of the Empire State Building.
